What is Reiki
Reiki is a Japanese technique originated by Mikao Usui. It is used for relaxation, stress reduction and also promotes healing, by placing hands on or near different parts of the body. This is done by allowing the spiritual energies to help heal the meridians and chakras. When these are unbalanced we can start to feel low, stressed and generally unwell.
Reiki is made up of two Japanese words: Rei - the wisdom or knowledge of all the universe, Ki - life force energy.
It is an alternative medicine using a technique called palm healing which a "universal spiritual energy" is transferred through the palms of the practitioner to the patient in a safe way, and has been effective in helping many illnesses.
History of Reiki
Mikao Usui was born August 15th 1865 in Yamagata. At the age of four he studied in a Tendai Buddhist Monastry school, he became a licenced teacher in Martial Arts in his twenties and studied Qi Gong, a system designed to improve health through meditation, breathing and slow movements to build up his life force energy, which could then be used to give hands on healing.
Usui travelled in China and Europe in the pursuit of knowledge to find a way to give healing without depleting ones own life force energy. His learning included medicine, psychology, theology or worlds religious and spiritual development. He also joined a metaphysical group dedicated to developing psychic abilities, because of his abilities to give healing.
In 1914 he became a Buddhist monk for the next 6 years and dedicated himself to intense practise and meditation and opened his own practice in 1922 called Usui Shiki Ryoho, the Usui system of Reiki healing.

What to expect
In a treatment session you will experience warm sensation as the energy comes in to balance, and release stress and tension. There is a deep sense of relaxation and a feeling of well-being.
You remain fully clothed and lie on a massage bed, removing only your coat and shoes. The whole body is treated and each hand position is held for several minutes and no pressure is applied.
